How many hairs are on your head?

Matthew 10:30– And even the hairs on your head are numbered.

Did you know the average person has 2,200 hair strands per 1 square inch of scalp? The average head has 100,000 individual hair strands.  People with different color hair have different amounts also. Blonds have 140,000. Brown haired people have 110,000. People with black hair have around 108,000 strands. Red heads have the lowest count with 80,000.

Warren W. Wiersbe in his book The Bible Exposition Commentary, Volume 1 says this, “God is concerned  about all of the details of our lives. Even the hairs of our head are numbered-not “counted” in a total, but numbered individually! God sees the sparrow fall to the ground, and God sees when a hair falls from the head of one of His children. When He protects His own, He protects them down to the individual hairs.  There is no need for us to fear when God is exercising such wonderful care over us.”

This verse is reassuring to me as I go throughout my day. God is in control. He knows everything that is going on my life.  If he knows exactly how many individual strands of hair on my head, how can I not trust him with the tiny details of my life?

  1. If God has my hairs numbered, surely He is paying attention to the more important details of my life and cares deeply. Very reassuring.
